Getting Kids To Eat Vegetables
Day in, day out, parents all over the world are trying to get their children to eat more vegetables. It is a challenge. One way to subtly influence them is to start off by cooking dishes that have both meat and vegetables in them. Thai style minced pork with thai basil is a popular staple in Thailand but in this version, we added in long beans and choy poh, ingredients that appear in the Chinese version of this dish.
Thai-Chinese Style Minced Pork

Fresh Produce: 500 g minced pork shoulder or minced chicken 300 g long beans, cut into 3 cm pieces – deep fried or steamed 2 sprigs of Thai basil leaves Aromatics: 2 garlic (minced) 3 Tbsp sweet choy poh (minced) – otherwise known as sweet preserved radish Seasonings: Light/thin soya sauce (to taste) Dark/thick soya sauce (to taste) Pinch of sugar Pinch of white pepper Sea salt to tasteInstructions
1.Heat up wok and add 3 Tbsp oil to wok
2. Add garlic and stir fry till slightly browned and fragrant
3. Add minced pork
4. Add all seasonings and adjust taste
5. Add choy poh and Thai basil leaves
6. Quickly toss and switch off fire
7. Serve hot with rice
Notes
(1) Buy sweet choy poh already minced in packets from your wet market dry goods stall. Be careful not to buy the salty type (2) Taste your soya sauces before using them for cooking (3) Don't overcook the Thai basil and only add the leaves at the end for a nice fragrance
